Site

The site that I have chosen for this proposal is located in the city of Kigali, Rwanda Africa

In order to put this proposal into context the specific site that I chose for the Kigali Automotive Institute is located several miles outside of the urban environment of the city.  To show some of the more extreme conditions of this prototype the site resides along the crest of a hillside making it difficult to adjust to the sloping topography.

In order to make this proposal a reality in a struggling economy like that of Rwanda as well as other underdeveloped countries this project needs to be taken in a series of small steps.  In this case I have decided to take a two phase process which establishes a small Automotive Institute comprised of several initial buildings including a mechanics' shop, classroom, and multiple housing and dining units.

Here in this site plan the first phase of construction is highlighted in orange to show the relationship and proximity of the separate facilities to one another. This first phase provides one shop in order for the students to gain hands on experience with the vehicles as well as provide a revenue from the complex through engine tuning and fabrication.  Along with the shop, one classroom is included in this initial phase of the project; meant for various uses by adapting to the age and experience of the students. Finally, also included in phase one are two housing units.

As the Institute becomes more well known and generates enough profit and interest expansion of the campus will be needed.  Phase two of the proposal calls for additional housing, classroom and shop facilities to break ground. The site plan above only gives one possible layout for how the additional structures could be arranged on the complex.
